Environmental impact statement

This is our written commitment on the environment. It covers the coaches we run, where we keep them, the fuel we burn and the waste we produce.

The commitment

Wild Rover Tours carries out its work in a way that keeps the impact of touring on the environment as low as we can make it. Our drivers and guides accept that what we do affects the environment locally and globally. This statement is the written version of that commitment.

Compliance

We comply with the environmental legislation that applies to our work and we meet our legal duties. We treat that as a minimum, not a target.

Where we keep the coaches

We store the fleet in a secure warehouse in Dublin city centre rather than on the edge of the city. That keeps the daily distance between the depot and the tour start point down. Measured against operators storing coaches further out, it saves at least 20 kilometres per coach per day. Across 361 operating days a year, that is 7,220 kilometres per coach. City centre storage costs a good deal more to rent. We think the trade is worth it.

Vehicles and emissions

Our coaches are high specification Scania and Mercedes touring vehicles, and our commitment is to keep reinvesting capital in the fleet rather than running vehicles past their best. We hold every coach to the manufacturer maintenance warranties, which keeps toxic emissions down. We use fully synthetic oils and the cleanest high grade diesel available to the transport industry.

Waste

We contract only waste companies that are properly regulated and compliant with the legislation. We push recycling internally and with passengers on tour. Our guides collect what is left on board and separate the recycling before the coach returns to the warehouse.

Review

We monitor how the company performs against this statement and keep working to improve on it, with continued compliance as the baseline.

Emissions measures

  • Minimise toxic emissions into the atmosphere through adherence to the manufacturer maintenance warranties on our fleet of coaches.
  • Minimise the greenhouse gas emissions generated by our activities through the use of fully synthetic oils and the cleanest high grade diesel available to the transport industry.
